Hide Folder

A computer's hard drive is the best location where you can store various data. Unfortunately, there is no Windows version which offers an effective protection for those files. Anyone can stumble upon them and access your sensitive information. Regardless if you want to save an important document or a set of files, Hide Folder can be used to encrypt anything. Just target your data and the software will render the files useless, until your password is provided.

You can install Hide Folder like any other application. The setup wizard will guide you through the same stages. Because it is an encryption software, a password is obviously needed. It can be created during the setup process and changed at any time, in the program's main settings panel.

The software offers protection for single files, entire folders or disk partitions. There are two ways of encrypting data and both are very easy. After clicking the Protect option, located on the toolbar, you can target drives, folders, individual files, on a new window. You will find the same options, regardless of what you select. You can choose to hide your data, set permissions for reading, writing or deleting it. It you target a folder for encryption, you can also tick an option to deny moving it.

Another way of encrypting data is to launch a wizard and follow its instructions. In this way, you will have the possibility to hide files, folders or entire disk drives, set items to "read only" to prevent anyone from erasing or modifying them, encrypt files and folders, protect removable drives and limit access to system folders, such as My Documents, Favorites and others. Depending on which of these options you select, during the first step of the wizard, the following stages will be different, but you will be guided with step by step instructions all the way.

Protected items are displayed as entries in a list, on the application's interface. You may decrypt an item at any time, by selecting it and clicking an option on the toolbar. Once it is decrypted, the item will not disappear automatically from the list. You can remove it yourself, adjust permissions, or encrypt it again with toolbar options.
